Memory 3 (Game 103) - Eugénie's Performance Night
What it is
[Albert is being held up at the entrance to the opera house's main concert hall.]
Danglars: Albert, my boy, I'm sorry but the hall is already filled with the invited guests!
Albert: I have an invitation! Eugénie gave it to me.
Danglars: Hmph. The past is the past. Let's pretend it never happened.
Albert: I was invited by Eugénie! You have no right to turn me away!
Danglars: Did you get that hot temper of yours from your father?
Albert: This has nothing to do with my father! I'm my own man! You'll let me pass!
Guards: [Advance on Albert]
Danglars: [LOL] And just what are you going to do about it? You have no power. You have no money. You're nothing but a spoiled brat!
Guards: [ESCORTING ALBERT OUT 8Db]
Albert: [Struggling to get free] Shut up! ... Maybe so! But I still... damn it! Let me go!
Lucien: [Coming down the stairs] What's this commotion? This is supposed to be an auspicious occasion.
Danglars: Oh, you were invited too?
Lucien: Yes, by your wife. [:')]
Danglars: [Nervous laughter] My wife seems to be feeling a little out of sorts. Would you mind keeping her company for me?
Danglars: I'm sorry, but I'm not in the mood today. Excuse me.
[Lucien goes to rescue Albert from being thrown out by "escorting" him out himself. What he actually does is take him around to the back entrance.]
Albert: Stop it, Lucien! I... I have to get in there! Listen!
Lucien: Use your head, then! You'll never get in through the front door.
Albert: [Punching the wall] Crap...
Lucien: ... I don't owe you any favours or anything, but I've been doing some things that are hurting Eugénie.
Albert: [Blinking in surprise and looking at Lucien] You... are you really sleeping with Eugénie's mother?
Lucien: It's all part of my job. [:')] You'll never understand your whole life, and you don't have any need to. Anyway, be there for her and listen to her performance. You like Eugénie, don't you?
Albert: ...
[THE STARTING BUZZER SOUNDS]
Lucien: [Smirk] Let's go.
[There's a round of applause, and Albert and Lucien manage to sneak in to watch the performance from the wings of backstage just as Eugénie is sitting down to start. Her performance is magnificent -- an abridged version of Rachmaninoff's Second Piano Concerto, with an accompanying orchestra. At the end, the hall is filled with the sound of thunderous applause. Eugénie walks off the stage into the wings to see... Albert?!]
Albert: [Clapping \o/]
Eugénie: ... Albert?
Albert: [Nods]
Eugénie: ... You're a little bit late, don't you think?!
Albert: I was right here the whole time. ... I had a little trouble getting in, is all.
Eugnie: You don't mean my father, do you?
Albert: ... It's all right. I heard you play just fine. [Walking closer to her] It was really great. You were radiant out there-- my heart was pounding.
Eugénie: [Blushes and looks away] Idiot. If I'd known you were here, I would've been able to play even better. ... I would've been playing for you.
Albert: [Also blushing] Eugénie... [He hugs her, then after a moment he pushes them apart again.] I'm sorry-- even though I'm not your fiancé anymore, I--
Eugénie: That doesn't matter. I don't care.
Albert: Oh! Here. [He reaches into his coat pocket and picks out a branch of big green muscat grapes and holds them out for her.]
Eugénie: What?
Albert: You like these, don't you?
Eugénie: Well... sure... but you're supposed to bring a bouquet of flowers.
Albert: Really? Oh... I guess that's true. [Blushes and laughs]
Eugénie: [Smiling] You're such a fool. You haven't changed one bit since we were kids.
Albert: Huh?
Eugénie: Out in the meadow ... I wanted you to pick flowers for me ... but you would always bring me berries instead. ... They were delicious though. [Eating a grape and smiling at him. They share a look, and then it looks as if they're about to go in for a kiss, when...]
Andrea: Mademoiselle Eugénie. It won't do to keep your audience waiting. [:')]
Albert: You--!
Andrea: Wait, Albert! [Putting a hand on his shoulder] Listen to one more song. I'll be playing it just for you. [KIRA KIRA IN THEIR EYES]
[Another beautiful melody plays. It's much slower and full of love.]
Lucien: [In the wings too, behind Andrea] It looks as if you've been shut out. [:')]
Andrea: I wouldn't be so sure about that. [:')]
[The song finishes, and the audience applauds again. Albert applauds from his spot in the wings, when Andrea steps past him out on to the stage with a large bouquet of red roses.]
Andrea: Ladies and gentlemen! Let's have a warm round of applause for Mademoiselle Eugénie! [He goes forward to Eugénie to give her the bouquet. A short conversation between them ensues that Albert cannot hear from his spot offstage. All he can see is Andrea giving her the flowers, and then giving her a rather familiar kiss on the cheek in front of a rather large audience.]
Albert: Ah--! That jerk--!
Danglars: [Appearing in the wings behind Albert] You don't know when to quit! [Albert turns to see him and several guards.] My daughter has set out on the road to a bright future! Don't ruin it for her! You don't have any right to be here! [The guards surround him] All the seats for tonight's performance were bought out by the Marquis Cavalcanti! You've lost, so go away!
[THE GUARDS THROW ALBERT OUT OF THE CONCERT HALL. Rather rudely.]
[Albert wanders down the entrance lobby, depressed, until he sees the Count standing down the hallway (for no apparent reason).]
Albert: Count...
Count: Why, whatever is the matter? [Approaching Albert] You're not looking well at all.
Albert: [TEARY EYED :'(] Count! [He runs to the Count and pretty much falls on him, crying.]
Count: Albert?
Count: [Sobbing into his shirt] I'm so ... frustrated ... at how weak and pathetic I am...
[Presumably, the Count holds him until he has stopped crying, then leads him towards the exit of the opera house. End memory.]
What he learned
- Eugénie's dad is kind of a dick!
- He is no longer engaged to Eugénie?! What is going on here?!
- His father apparently has a hot temper? (... Still remembers nothing about his father though...)
- Lucien's name
- Lucien is a ... sort-of friend??? How do you define someone who is sleeping with your ex-fiancée's mother and talks down to you but is nice to you at the same time?? 8|aaa
- Apparently, his feelings about Eugénie have changed a lot since the last memory?!
- Eugénie is an excellent pianist. (Also a tsundere.)
- What Eugénie actually looks like!
- He's known Eugénie since childhood.
- ANDREA IS A DICK >:EEE
- And probably Eugénie's new fiancée 8'(
- The Count is someone who, at this point, he absolutely trusts and respects, who he looks towards in times of trouble for advice and comfort. lololol!!!!
What this means
- LOTS AND LOTS OF LOVE CONFUSION. The VERY LAST MEMORY that Albert took was him admitting that he probably didn't love Eugénie, and acknowledging that their marriage was one of convenience! Now he gets a memory where, all of a sudden, A) they are not engaged anymore and B) he has feelings for her! WHAT?!?!?! Albert ... still has NO IDEA why he is in Sabra, or how old this memory is. For all he knows, Eugénie could be married to Andrea by now. Or even if she isn't, by the picture he's slowly getting of the world he lives in, it doesn't seem like there's much he can do about the situation... it really seems like a hopeless case :\a. Add onto that the fact that Albert doesn't remember any of the events or emotions leading up to this, so (even without the discordance of the previous memory) to suddenly remember having feelings for Eugénie is a bit jarring to say the least. ... And he still has feelings leftover for Yayoi, too, even though he knows that's not going to work out 8(a. (WHY DO I HAVE NO LUCK IN LOVE?!?!!!) Eugénie is still going to be a very important person to him, because it's clear they do share a years-long bond. But he is ... not quite ready for ... feelings.
--> TL;DR this probably won't even show up in his day-to-day interaction with people at all, unless you're Faith. Or maybe Claude. Or unless you get him extremely drunk. Other than that, I don't think there are currently any other circumstances in which he would discuss his love life with someone :\a.
- STILL GAY FOR THE COUNT i mean what. (I don't think I really need to elaborate on this one.)
- This memory is still not dire enough to come to Sabra over, :|aaaaa!!!
- Increase in curiousity about his memories, since this memory so DRASTICALLY contrasts the previous one, the ending of this particular one will probably bring back his curiousity-- at least for now.
