Memory 13 (Game 121) - Peppo is a pain

What it is:

This is actually multiple scenes pieced together from episode 4 and one from episode 3-- basically just every time Peppo harasses/trolls Albert within the short time span of like. one evening.

[Scene: Episode 3-- after the introducing the Count to friends memory but before introducing him to family. Peppo is taking the plates from afternoon tea at the dinner table to the kitchen, at which point in time Albert yoinks her into a dark corner to have a conversation. It's their first conversation after Albert has realised that she's working as a maid in his house wtf.]
Peppo: [Yelps at being pulled into a dark corner oh noes!]
Albert: All right, what are you up to?
Peppo: [Small sigh of relief] You caught me. ... I quit the bandit gang. So I came to Paris to look for work.
Albert: But ... what are you doing here?
Peppo: [With a straight face] I followed you, Albert.
Albert: [Completely taken aback and blushes ridiculously despite himself]
Peppo: Pfft, I'm kidding, kidding! It was just a co-incidence. There happened to be an opening here, that's all!
Albert: ... Hey ... Peppo ...
Peppo: So you remembered my name.
Albert: Are you planning to stay here for good?
Peppo: Can't I?
Albert: Well, it's ... how can I put it ...
Peppo: Don't worry. Let's just agree to keep one another's secrets, okay? [Winks at him and walks off]

[Scene: Episode 4-- later in the evening of the previous scene, after having dinner with the Count and his family. From Albert's bedroom window, Albert can see his mother on a higher story balcony, chatting amiably with the Count.]

Peppo: Infidelity. Adultery. Dalliances in the dead of night. You aristocrats are as energetic as the rumors say!
Albert: Spare me your crude comments! The Count is a friend of mine.
Peppo: Honestly, you're such a child |D! If people could become friends simply by sharing bread and salt, nobody would suffer.
Albert: Huh? What are you talking about?
Peppo: You'll understand sooner or later, little boy. [Smirks and excuses herself]
Albert: [Watches her go in confusion, and then turns to look out the window at his mother on the upstairs balcony.]

--

[Scene: After supper that night, Peppo is gossiping in the kitchen with the other maids. Albert has followed her down and is eavesdropping on the conversation.]

Peppo: [Carrying a stack of plates in] Good grief! Why do aristocrats eat like this all the time?
Nameless maid 1: Dinner parties, high tea, balls... well, it's probably because they don't have anything else to do.
Peppo: In other words, if you took away gluttony, lust and avarice, there wouldn't be anything left!
Nameless maid 2: You need to watch your mouth.
NM 1: Didn't you think today's guest was rather elegant and handsome? [Referring to the Count]
NM 2: I'm not so sure. He wasn't very refined.
Peppo: Maybe, but he had a pretty good vibe going on with the mistress under the grapevine trellis!
NM 1: What, really? I'd always thought that the master was the only man in the world for the mistress.
Peppo: I think that any society lady would fall for the Count if he worked his mojo on her.
NM 2: Give it a rest already!
Peppo: [Closing the washing machine and winking] Make no mistake, that was definitely the face of a woman in love!
NM 2: If you don't stop that I'm going to report you.
Peppo: Oooh, I'm so scared. [But she backs down, and looks towards the door where she presumably knows Albert is eavesdropping.]
Albert: [In his head] That's preposterous. My mother is the last person in the world who would be capable of ... [Annoyed and confused, he makes up his mind to go find his mother and talk to her. But when he finds her, she's standing on her balcony again under the grapevine trellis, wistfully looking at a photo of a man. Albert's too far away to make out who it is, but it definitely isn't his father.]
Albert: [Stops and hides] Who in the world is in that picture she's staring at?

--

[Scene: at some point in time later-- maybe the next day, maybe later the next week, it's not clear. But at some point, Albert is in his room brooding when a knock comes at the door and Peppo lets herself in.]

Albert: What, you're still here?
Peppo: [Goes towards his desk and starts rearranging stuff, only to knock a pile of books over]
Albert: --Hey! Don't touch those! [Albert goes to pick them up off the floor]
Peppo: I hate to break it to you, but I've gotten into your father's good graces.
Albert: His "good graces"?
Peppo: Meaning that your father is a man, like any other. [Licks her lips suggestively]
Albert: [Curiously not rising to the bait, probably because he doesn't believe her.] Give those bad jokes of yours a rest.
Peppo: Well, setting aside your father for the moment, the one I'd be worried about is your mother, you know? [As she says this, she takes an old puppet of Albert's off the shelf and starts playing with it]
Albert: What's that supposed to mean?
Peppo: I mean, she was staring so wistfully at that picture of a young man ...
Albert: [Taken aback] You saw that?
Peppo: There's no mistaking it, it was definitely a man. A man who isn't your father.
Albert: [Says nothing, but his face is starting to look troubled and upset]
Peppo: [Seeing she's hit home] Oh, I can understand. If my mama was staring at a picture of some strange man, I'd be depressed too.
Albert: That's about enough! Get out!
Peppo: [Throwing the puppet down on the floor absently] Yes~ sir~.

--

[Scene: a few days later again (?), Albert is dreaming.]

Albert: [Walking down a corridor in his house, spots Peppo in his mother's room, at her vanity and trying on her jewellery, humming to herself.] What's he... [Walking into the room] Peppo! What're you doing?
Peppo: Oh, hi Albert!
Albert: Don't you "Oh, hi," me! Don't play around with my mother's jewellery!
Peppo: [Admiring herself] But they're so pretty!
Albert: If my father sees you like that, there'll be hell to pay!
Peppo: Fine, fine. It's fine as long as I put them back, right? [Taking the jewellery off and putting it back]
Albert: [While she does that, Albert becomes distracted with one of the drawers on his mother's vanity. It has a lock on it. He starts staring at it intensely.]
Peppo: ... It's bothering you, isn't it?
Albert: [Surprised, looks up at her]
Peppo: It's like your mother's secret treasure is hidden inside.
Albert: [Flashes back to: his mother looking at the photo on the balcony.] Impossible...
Peppo: Really? There's no such thing as a human being who doesn't have secrets. Just like you and I share a certain secret night.
Albert: That-- That was just me being tricked by you!
Peppo: [Seeing she's hit a nerve, relents] If you ever want that lock opened, come see me anytime! [Smirk] After all, I specialize in getting into people's drawers.
Albert: Stop being crude and get back to work!
Peppo: Ah, fine! [Flounces out]
Albert: [Imagining the lock opening itself, and looking inside ... wherein he finds a picture of the Count.] It... can't be... why would Mother have a picture of the Count?
Albert: [Suddenly wakes up from this dream in a cold sweat, looking a little traumatized. He manages to calm himself down, though.] This is ridiculous. What am I so worried about...?

What he learned: PEPPO IS A DICKBAG :( Also is way too interested in his mother's affairs what. NO OEDIPUS COMPLEX HERE SIR \o_o/.

What this means: Not much, it's not really a personality-impacting memory.

Taken on: Day 201
