Memory 11 (Game 119) - Meeting Franz for the first time

What it is:
Note: this memory is another childhood snippet actually narrated by Franz, so I'm inserting quite a bit of headcanon conclusions drawn from whatever's implied in the series to complete the scraps of this scene that are presented but not explained from Albert's perspective.

[Albert is about seven years old, having been dragged to the funeral of somebody he doesn't know. He's not familiar with the family but his father says it's important that they make an appearance and pay their respects. Albert stands behind his mother, clutching her dress for the whole service and glares at the officiating priest as he silently wills the whole thing to be over because he's incredibly bored. A few times he makes eye contact with the son of the guy who died over the casket, noting that he seems to be about the same age as him.

After the service is over, the adults mingle for adult conversation and Albert wanders away, hoping to find the boy who looked about his age for some
real conversation instead of being made to sit through whatever the grown-ups have to say. Eventually he does find Franz, quite away from the adults, sitting on a small out-door stairwell in the graveyard, crying into his shirt sleeve. Suddenly feeling a pang of sympathy for this kid, in a genius stroke of Albert-style-logic, he ... chucks a pebble at him.]

Franz: [Glares at Albert, and then resumes crying into his sleeve]
Albert: [Throws another pebble at him]
Franz: !! [GLARE]
Albert: [Approaching] Don't cry.
Franz: [Looks away] I'm not crying.
Albert: I'll play with you, so--
Franz: Shut up! Get lost!!
Albert: ... [D8]
Franz: [Puts his head back on his arms on top of his knees, until he hears ... crying not coming from him?]
Albert: [CRYING :(]
Franz: H-Hey... [gets up from his sitting place, and hesitantly puts a hand on Albert's shoulder.]

Franz's flashback stops there, though he narrates after "Ever since that day, Albert and I have been inseparable." It's kind of implied that through the act of trying to cheer Albert up for yelling at him, Franz is able to put aside his own grief. They probably spend some time together after that just talking and maybe playing a game of some sort out in the open before the adults come to collect them, and part ways good friends and promise to visit one another's houses soon.

What he learned: Not much from this memory, other than how he met Franz, and boy he was a bit callous as a kid huh. ETA: If he was a bit older I'd probably say something here about Latin and Catholicism because of the service but uh he's seven (or thereabouts) so I'm just gonna say ... not much more than a surface awareness gleaned.

What this means: No real impact in Sabra since NO FRANZ sob \o/;;;. Just a generally happy relationship memory. Someone app my gay boyfriend alreadyyyy.

Taken on: Day 205
