Memory 5 (Game 106) - Dad's a jerk

What it is

[Scene: Albert is walking up the large driveway to his manor, feeling depressed. On the way he gets approached by the postman.]
Postman: I have a letter here for the General.
Albert: Oh. Thanks. [Taking it and looking at it, turning it over to see who it's from. Reading it out loud:] Edmond... Dantés...? [He continues on into the house and directly to his father's study, where he knocks on the door twice.]
Fernand: [From inside the study] Yes? [Quickly collecting up the papers off his desk]
Albert: [Entering] I'm sorry. Are you working?
Fernand: No, that's all right. I was just finishing up.
Albert: There's something I want to talk to you about...
Fernand: There is, eh? Have a seat. [Putting the papers away in a desk drawer.] Now that the election is drawing near, there are a lot of matters that have to be taken care of.
Albert: I can imagine. Oh, this was addressed to you. [Handing the letter from the postman over to his father and sitting down.]
Fernand: [Taking it and reading it] A funeral invitation? [Flipping over the envelope to see the sender... and his eyes widen dramatically. He goes very silent.]
Albert: [Looking down, twiddling his thumbs, looking a little apprehensive.] The thing is, I just got back from Villefort Manor. ... I'd like to get Valentine away from that place. [As Albert talks, Fernand is looking more and more agitated, but he plunges on.] I was wondering if there was anything you could do to persuade her father. She's in great danger every minute she stays there. If the request came from you, Monsieur Villefort might...
Fernand: Why do you feel the need to poke your nose into another family's affairs?
Albert: What do you mean, "why"? My friend is--
Fernand: Neither you nor your friend have any right to throw someone else's house into turmoil!
Albert: How can you say that?! You have no idea what's going on! If we don't do something, she'll--!
Fernand: [Slamming his fist down on the desk] My answer is no! Don't get involved any further!
Albert: [Standing up again out of anger] What're you getting so angry about?! My friend is in trouble, and you're telling me to just abandon her?! [Suddenly recognising that the situation is futile and he's not going to make any headway with this, so he clenches his fists and resigns.] ... Fine. Forget it. It was stupid of me to even ask. [Stalks out and closes the door behind him. Narrowly resisting slamming it.]

--

[Albert has gone to their main living room to sulk on his own on their large, plush sofas. After a while, his mother finds him.]
Mercedes: What's the matter? You look upset. [She sits down beside him]
Albert: [Still looking up at the ceiling, not meeting her gaze] I got into a shouting match with father, that's all.
Mercedes: I see.
Albert: Mother, do you know anyone named Edmond Dantés?
Mercedes: [Looking a little alarmed] Edmond... Dantés?
Albert: Yeah. That was the name of the sender on a letter that came for Father today. The instant Father saw that name, he started acting strangely for some reason.
Mercedes: [Doesn't say anything, but her fists clench and her breath hitches]
Albert: [Turning to look at her] ... What's the matter?
Mercedes: [Smiling at him] It's nothing. I haven't been sleeping well lately, that's all.
Albert: [Standing up, seeming to have gotten over his sulk on his own now that his mother's behaviour has changed too.] With the election almost here, I bet you're tired too.
Mercedes: Yes, that might be it.
Albert: [Walking out of the room] You should take it easy. [He pauses at the door to look back at his mother who seems to have withdrawn into herself on the couch. He thinks in his head:] Who is he? Who is this "Edmond Dantés" person?

What he learned
- Finally, what his father looks like and how they interact! It doesn't really come across so much in the subtitles, but Albert's language towards his father is really rather formal and respectful. He doesn't even prolong the argument; he steps down as soon he's lost.
- Dad's STILL a jerk >8(. This is rrrrreeeaally not gonna do anything to help with the impression from the previous memory 8D.
- This memory clearly took place before the previous one, since they're talking about the election-- which was over in the previous memory.
- More about what his house looks like. Holy crap it's HUGE. He keeps being really shocked every time he sees how he lived in the past because of how decadent it is in comparison to what he has in Sabra. Even moreso because in his memories, it's all TOTALLY NORMAL.
- He has a friend named Valentine, who's in grave danger for some reason D:?! Something to do with someone named Villefort?
- First memory of interacting with his mother in a normal situation. He's really fond of her ♥. Also since the lights are turned on in this scene, for the first time he can see how beautiful she really is.
- Something mysterious is going on, and someone named Edmond Dantés is at the bottom of it.

What this means
Really nothing different from the previous memory, so I'll probably have him take this one with Memory 4 (if he ever does) as well since they're not very different in impact and this one isn't very important or relevant in the grand scheme of things. Both will cause him to adopt a somewhat more openly rebellious attitude towards anyone trying to take a father-like position-of-authority over him for a while, but I think the only two who're in danger of that right now are Gokudera and Shigure.

Taken on: Day 172 together with memory 4.
